Secretary General Michallik of the KMK debated with NEPS representatives

On March 21, Udo Michallik, who has been the new Secretery General of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder in the Federal Republic of Germany (Ständige Konferenz der Kultusminister der Länder in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, KMK) since October 1, 2010, accepted the invitation of the Managing Project Director and Principal Investigator of the NEPS Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Peter Blossfeld to get a personal overview on the current status of the biggest longitudinal study in the field of educational research in Germany so far.

11th NEPS user training in April 2012

The 11th NEPS user training will take place in Bamberg on April 16 and 17. The user training will give an introduction to the NEPS data structure with special focus on the longitudinal data of starting cohort 6 - adults. Please register for training until April 2.

Professor Hans-Günther Roßbach presented the report of the „Aktionsrat Bildung“ on professionalization in early education

On February 28, 2012, the Bavarian industry association vbw hosted a conference about the importance of day care facilities as institutions of education and the role played by pedagogical specialist staff. As part of this conference, Professor Hans-Günther Roßbach, Chair of Elementary and Family Pedagogics at the University of Bamberg and Head of the Departments  “From Kindergarten to Elementary Schools” and “Learning Environments” of the National Educational Panel Study, presented the current report of the “Aktionsrat Bildung”: Professionalisierung in der Frühpädagogik. Qualifikationsniveau und -bedingungen des Personals in Kindergärten (Professionalization in Early Education: Qualification Levels and Conditions Required of Kindergarten Staff)

PD Dr. Oliver Lipps presented the Swiss Household Panel

PD Dr. Oliver Lipps visited the National Educational Panel Study in order to report on the Swiss Household Panel (SHP). In his lecture, he introduced the comparatively young panel, which is designed after the British Household Panel, and focused in particular on the questionnaires, the samples, the panel mortality and the countermeasures taken as well as data access and use.

Meir Yaish presented findings of a collaborative research project with Robert Andersen

From February 5 to February 10, Meir Yaish (Chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Haifa, Israel) visited the NEPS. In his talk "Public Opinion on Income Inequality in 20 Democracies: The Enduring Impact of Social Class and Economic Inequality" he presented findings of a collaborative research project with Robert Andersen (University of Toronto).
