After a short review of the founding history of the National Educational Panel Study, Prof. Blossfeld gave a presentation containing an overview on the excellence network as well as the structure and the aims of the NEPS as an infrastructure facility. However, he also drew attention to some points which the NEPS does not intend to achieve.

The Secretary General of the KMK Michallik recognized that the findings of the NEPS could well lead to a basic revaluation of the German Educational system and thought of numerous exciting questions which the NEPS data will be able to answer in the future.

The interesting discussion between the Secretary General Michallik and the representatives of the NEPS about the relationship between politics and science revealed the necessity and the advantages of a close collaboration.
