Information Sessions for Elementary Schools at the Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs

The events held for representatives of elementary schools taking part in the pilot study for the first grade had two major aims. On the one hand, participants gained extensive information on the content and organizational procedures of the studies in elementary schools. On the other hand, the discussions with school representatives were aimed to find out which parts of the project needed improving in order for the study to be carried out as smoothly as possible. The highly constructive dialogue with the participants of these events has already generated a number of important suggestions for the main survey.

NEPS study engages interest of Bavarian teachers‘ association

Prof. Fabrizio Bernadi from the European University Institute visited Bamberg

On November 29, 2011, Prof. Fabrizio Bernardi of the European University Institute in Florence (Italy), gave a guest lecture about “Compensation and Imperfect Information in Educational Transitions: Do Previous School Results Influence Future Education Choices Depending on the Social Backgrounds of Students?” as part of the research colloquium.

Prof. Götz Rohwer gives weekly lectures about statistical methods in sociological research of education

From November 1, 2011 to the end of February 2012, Prof. Götz Rohwer is attending the NEPS as a visiting scientist. He is professor for social science methodology and social statistics at Ruhr University Bochum.

Vivid exchange between Prof. Tippelt, Dr. Schmidt-Hertha and the NEPS team about the conception and measurement of competencies of older adults

The guest speakers, Prof. Tippelt and Dr. Schmidt-Hertha, gave an interesting lecture about the CiLL-study which focuses on the measurement of competencies of people aged between 66 and 80 years. The CiLL-study (Competencies in Later Life) is a joint project delivered by the DIE (German Institute for Adult Education) in cooperation with the Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich (LMU) Institute for Pedagogy led by Prof. Dr. Rudolf Tippelt, Prof. Dr. Dieter Gnahs and Dr. Bernhard Hertha-Schmitt. The study is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF).
