NEPS study engages interest of Bavarian teachers‘ association

12/5/2011
Dr. Jutta von Maurice presented the NEPS study at a meeting of the Upper Franconian District Council of the teachers‘ association (Bayerischer Lehrer- und Lehrerinnenverband, BLLV) in Baiersdorf near Altenkunstadt.
The Upper Franconian District Council of the BLLV sees enormous possibilities for the NEPS study (National Educational Panel Study) “Educational Careers in Germany” to ensure a better educational system from the very beginning. The Executive Director of Research of the NEPS, Dr. Jutta von Maurice, presented the background, implementation and aims of the NEPS study to the teachers in attendance on December 3 at the meeting of the District Council in Baiersdorf near Altenkunstadt. The chairman of the BLLV Upper Franconia Peter Bauer was grateful that Dr. Jutta von Maurice and the two NEPS staff members Manfred Egner and Wolfgang Hoderlein found time to present the NEPS study personally to the District Council, especially because BLLV president Klaus Wenzel had already been in contact with the NEPS for quite some time. Dr. Jutta von Maurice pointed out that education already starts before attending Kindergarten or school, and also does not stop after having completed one’s professional training or a degree at university. Therefore, it is important to picture the development of an individual continuously from the earliest years up until old age. In order to make reliable statements about one of the most important educational stages, the school career, the NEPS study depends on the participation of the most different kinds of pupils as well as on the support of teachers, school administrations and parents. The members of the BLLV District Council were very interested in the biggest educational study in Germany until now, which was also proved by lots of questions and the subsequent discussion.
