Professor Jane Waldfogel, Ph.D., visits the LIfBi

2/24/2017
A lively scientific exchange was the primary focus of the 3-day visit by Prof. Jane Waldfogel, Ph.D., Columbia University School of Social Work & London School of Economics, at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi).

At the beginning of her visit, Waldfogel presented her publication “Too many children left behind: The US achievement gap in comparative perspective”. In doing so, she pointed out the impact of socioeconomic differences on the development of children’s performances with particular consideration of the individual family background. Her research focuses on four countries with different Kindergarten and school systems—USA, UK, Canada, and Australia. Moreover, the exchange with LIfBi researchers was a central aspect of her guest stay. Among other things, the situation in Germany was introduced and compared to the abovementioned countries—particularly the United States. Additionally, Waldfogel gained an insight into the data of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) during a NEPS user training focusing on Starting Cohorts 1 and 2. The LIfBi team is looking forward to an exciting further cooperation.
