8/19/2015
On Wednesday, August 19, 2015, Prof. Dr. Hans-Günther Roßbach, Director of the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi), welcomed State Secretary Cornelia Quennet-Thielen from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to Bamberg. Roßbach explained that “the Federal Ministry of Education and Research has emphatically supported the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) since 2008 and has thus provided the field of empirical educational research with an outstanding new instrument.”

The NEPS is the biggest and most important study situated at LIfBi. During her visit, State Secretary Quennet-Thielen was impressed: “The unique potential of the NEPS data makes it possible for the first time to reconstruct educational trajectories and, therefore, gain an even deeper understanding of educational processes throughout the whole life course. This opens up new opportunities for empirical educational research to identify coherencies and analyze the outcomes of particular measures.”

The NEPS is an internationally unique study. With the release of the data set of Starting Cohort 1 (Early Childhood) in March 2015, all stages of the acquisition of education have now been assessed. This provides the scientific community in Germany and abroad with data on educational processes in Germany from the first steps in learning to learning after the employment phase.
