Dr. Helge Braun (Parliamentary State Secretary of the BMBF in Berlin) opened the meeting with an optimistic and prospective welcoming speech. In the keynote address to the meeting, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Baumert (Director Eremitus at the Max-Planck-Institute for Educational Research in Berlin) emphasized the major importance of the National Educational Panel Study. Prof. Dr. Hans-Günther Roßbach (Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg) presented the layout and structure of the National Educational Panel Study in Panel 3 called “What do we know about learning in the course of life? Answers for science and politics based on longitudinal science.” Dr. Hilde Schaper (HIS – Institute for Research on Higher Education, Hanover) participated in Panel 12, “Opportunities and boundaries of the measurement of competencies – how is it possible for science and practice to pull together?” with a presentation on the NEPS stage dealing with students in higher education. In the adjacent market square, interested parties had the opportunity during both days of the meeting to get more information on the measurement of different competency domains and on the provision of data to the scientific community facilitated by the National Educational Panel Study .

 

Prof. Timo Ehmke (Leuphana University, Leipzig), Dr. Maike Martensen (Leibniz-Institute for Science and Mathematics Education in Kiel) and Tobias Koberg (Data Center of the NEPS in Bamberg) were available as point of contacts for these particular subjects. The staff of the National Educational Panel Study was especially pleased that Kornelia Haugg (Head of the Department Vocational Education, Lifelong Learning, BMBF, Bonn), Ursula Zahn-Elliot (Head of Division 322, responsible for the National Educational Panel Study – Educational Research, Bonn) and Dr. Doerte Treuheit (Head of Division 323 – Performance of the Educational System as Compared to International Standards, Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Berlin) availed themselves of the opportunity to being informed personally by the Executive Director of Research of the National Educational Panel Study, Dr. Jutta von Maurice, about the great strides made so far by the National Educational Panel Study within the 3 years of its running. The convention, which has attracted wide interest, is from now on planned to be held every two years.
