Adam Gamoran visits the NEPS

From November 14-16, 2011, Adam Gamoran (John D. MacArthur Professor of Sociology and Educational Policy Studies and former chair of the UW-Madison Department of Sociology) visited the NEPS.

During his stay he gave two talks. The first ("Accountability and Inequality in U.S. Education") discussed recent developments in U.S. federal policy on the evaluation of school performance.

In his second talk ("Causal Effects of Social Capital on Child Outcomes", also available at:

http://www.wcer.wisc.edu/projects/projects.php?project_num=427) Adam Gamoran presented first results of a large experimental study conducted in school districts in Phoenix and San Antonio that estimate the causal effect of social capital on various behavioral and educational outcomes for children. During his stay Adam Gamoran met many researchers and PhD candidates from NEPS for fruitful discussions.
