Prof. Heckhausen discussed questioning techniques and several types of surveys with two NEPS research teams

11/18/2011

Prof. Jutta Heckhausen visited the National Educational Panel Study from November 16-18, 2011. She is professor of psychology at the University of California in Irvine.

In the discussions led by Prof. Heckhausen concerning questioning techniques and different types of surveys, the NEPS staff learned a lot from her expertise in the areas of motivational research, psychological life-course research as well as her survey and analysis methods. One of the main points under discussion were the instruments employed by NEPS measuring individual motivation and motivational development throughout the life course. As a result, staff members were able to get some valuable ideas for the advancement of their respective survey questionnaires. In addition, Prof. Heckhausen also discussed the possibilities and challenges of video-analysis for infants.

We are looking forward to welcoming Prof. Heckhausen as a guest of the NEPS again soon.
