Start of the first main wave of the adult survey

11/10/2009
After a full year of preparations, the first main survey of the National Educational Panel started with the adult sample (Stage 8) on November 10, 2009.
The goal of the survey is to assess the education trajectories and further learning activities of the population in Germany.  Over the last few months, in close cooperation with the scientists in the  NEPS, this has involved the further development of instruments to assess the formal education history, employment history, and family situation of respondents and the development and testing of completely new instruments to assess further learning activities in the private and vocational sectors along with the social resources available to respondents. Approximately 11,500 randomly selected 23- to 65-year-old adults were surveyed during the period from November 2009 until June 2010. Interviews were generally by telephone, but personal interviews were also carried out if requested. The average length of the interviews was about 90 minutes.
