The main objective of the Research Data Center LIfBi s to make information about the NEPS available to the public and to ensure user-friendly access to the data. This involves, for example, generating data sets in a range of common formats (e.g., SPSS, Stata) including the coding and generation of variables; data documenting major changes in the biographies of target persons and their families (e.g., career changes and changes in marital status); and integrating information from other data sets (e.g., regional information) into the NEPS database.

The User Service documents the data sets and serves as an information desk for all data-usage problems. The hotline set up for this purpose will also collect suggestions and feedback from data users, and pass these on to the persons and departments concerned. Further duties of the User Service are to organize access to the data, to plan introductory courses for users, and to implement these with the support of other departments.
