Martin Senkbeil is a senior researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Science Education (IPN) in Kiel. He holds a Ph.D in psychology from the University of Kiel. He has been working in testing and evaluation, as well as in computer-based learning and assessment. He is currently working on the evaluation of media-based learning environments, the use of computers in science education and science testing and the assessment of computer literacy. He has been involved in PISA 2003 and PISA 2006, where his focus is on scientific literacy education on the one hand, and on ICT literacy on the other hand. His work links results from PISA with national efforts in the domain of science education and computer-based learning. He was substantially involved in the national reporting in PISA 2003 and PISA 2006, above all in the analysis of computer familiarity issues. In NEPS he is responsible for the assessment of ICT literacy over the life span.
