Linkage of data from Starting Cohort Adults

with administrative data from the IAB (NEPS-SC6-ADIAB)

The linked data product NEPS-SC6-ADIAB is offered jointly by the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi, Bamberg) and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB, Nuremberg). NEPS-SC6-ADIAB consists of the survey and test data of the participants in the panel study Adult Education and Lifelong Learning (NEPS-SC6, Download SUF) as well as the respective information from the administrative database of the IAB, provided that the respondents have given their consent to the linking of their data and that they could be identified in the data of the IAB. The administrative data come from the Integrated Employment Biographies (IEB) of the IAB, which contain entries compiled and prepared from the employee history, the benefit recipient history, the unemployment benefit II recipient history, the jobseeker history, and the participants-in-measures history. In addition, geographical information and characteristics of the companies are available.

NEPS-SC6-ADIAB is particularly useful for research questions that require very accurate income data over the life course. The enrichment also entails a possible extension of the observation period, as some of the administrative data go back to 1975.

NEPS-SC6-ADIAB contains weakly anonymized data and can therefore only be analyzed during a guest stay at one of the locations of the Research Data Center of the Federal Employment Agency at the IAB and subsequent remote data processing. For working with the linked data, a contract must be concluded with both the Research Data Center of the IAB and the LIfBi. Detailed information on the data product and data access can be found on the corresponding IAB-FDZ website and in the FDZ-Datenreport 18/2023 available there.
