Sampling, Weighting, and Imputation

The main goal of the "Sampling, Weighting, and Imputation" team is to help the members of the eight stages and five pillars of the NEPS to tackle methodological problems. This includes advice on methodological issues such as sampling with different probabilities, dealing with nonresponders, or developing sampling design weights and extrapolation weights. Hence, the initial main tasks of this team will be to help prepare and carry out data collection. This includes defining and working out clear population limits for the single cohorts together with the assessment institutes and the stages concerned; working out sampling plans for the single cohorts together with the assessment institutes and the stages concerned; working out oversampling procedures for special groups, particularly those with a migration background; developing and providing sampling design weights; supervising the implementation of surveys and fieldwork by the assessment institutes; ensuring survey quality; and compiling quality reports on the single assessments and cohorts.

As more data become available, the main work of the team will shift to providing statistical advice to the workgroups on data analysis issues and particularly on imputation, weighting, event-history analyses, and panel analyses for complex patterns of incomplete data.
