We aim to establish a diverse community of data users with different backgrounds, rather than a restricted group of experienced analysts. All researchers interested in working with the data must be accommodated to ensure not only equal research opportunities but also high-quality analyses. This poses a significant challenge for the RDC as the longitudinal and hierarchical design of the NEPS surveys will deliver a complex database with numerous dependencies. Reconciling this complexity with convenient data usage calls for extensive user support. Therefore, the RDC will offer training courses on a monthly basis. These courses introduce the research design of the NEPS, the structure of data sets, terms and conditions of data usage, issues of privacy and data protection, and so on. A central module of the courses consists of hands-on work with the NEPS data supervised by the RDC staff. As skill levels, research interests, and methods vary greatly across users and disciplines, we will offer a comprehensive portfolio of seminars ranging from introductory topics on a rather general level to advanced methodological courses.
