Gunther Dahm is researcher at the Deutsches Zentrum f&uuml;r Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung (German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies, DZHW) in Hanover. After a course of studies in business administration at a university of cooperative education and work experience in the banking sector he studied sociology, political science and philosophy at the Technische Universit&auml;t Dresden (Dresden University of Technology). In this time, he was mainly interested in questions of action theory and in the Sociology of Education (e.g. educational decisions). In his thesis he dealt with the long-term development of educational inequality in Germany and especially with the potential causes of its relatively high magnitude if compared to inequalities in other national education systems. One of his main tasks within Stage 7 (Higher Education and the Transition to Work) of the NEPS is the conception and development of questionnaires and research instruments.
