On November 2, 2016, Dr. Ernst Dieter Rossmann, spokesperson of the working group “Education and Research” of the SPD Parliamentary Group, was informed about the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) and about other studies situated at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi).

SLLS 2016: Three-day international conference in Bamberg

From October 6 to 8, 2016, the annual conference of the Society for Longitudinal and Life Course Studies (SLLS) was held in Bamberg. 300 scientists from all over the world exchanged information on the topic of “Education and the Life Course: Determinants and Consequences of Unequal Educational Opportunities”.

Summer School of the DFG Priority Programme 1646 “Education as a Lifelong Process. Analyzing Data of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS)”

The second Summer School of the Priority Programme 1646 "Education as a Lifelong Process. Analyzing Data of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS)" on "Competence Development and Educational Inequalities—Theoretical Concepts and Methodological Implementations" took place from July 11–19, 2016 in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories. A 7-day program with varied teaching and learning formats aimed to promote young researchers by strengthening their theoretical and methodological skills in educational research. The Priority Programme is funded and initiated by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG).

Visit by Dr. Miriam Roth Douglas, Ph.D. (West Liberty University, WV) and students from various universities

On July 16, 2016, Dr. Jutta von Maurice and Stefanie Buchner welcomed for the second time Dr. Miriam Roth Douglas, Ph.D., Director of the Community Education Program at the College of Education at West Liberty University in West Virginia, and students from the following universities: West Liberty University, Marshall University and Shepherd University, all from West Virginia, US. The visit at the LIfBi was once again part of a 2-week program called “Summer study-abroad”, which is led and organized by Dr. Miriam Roth Douglas and initiated by the Ministry of Culture of the State of West Virginia.

Workshop and guest lecture held by Prof. Dr. Josef Brüderl

On June 13 and 14, Prof. Dr. Josef Brüderl, Professor of Sociology at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, and Principal Investigator and Coordinating Director of the German Family Panel (“Panel Analysis of Intimate Relationships and Family Dynamics”, pairfam), chaired the workshop “Applied Panel Data Analysis” at the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories. Additionally, on June 14, 2016, he gave a guest lecture on some methodological lessons learnt from the German Family Panel (pairfam).

Launch of the NEPS Survey Paper Series

In addition to the NEPS Working Papers, the Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories is now offering a second publication series—the NEPS Survey Papers. This new publication series discusses methodological aspects and questions concerning the handling of data of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). It is primarily addressed to researchers working with NEPS data who are interested in further information on relevant topics.

3rd Annual General Meeting of NEPS elects new Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and members of the NEPS Network Committee

On February 16, 2016, the Annual General Meeting of NEPS met in Bamberg for the third time. Besides electing the new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Annual General Meeting of NEPS and the members of the NEPS Network Committee, the meeting focused on revising the Rules and Regulations of the Annual General Meeting, the Full Staff Meeting, and the Network Committee of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). Moreover, ideas of the NEPS Network to develop the National Educational Panel Study further were discussed.
