Release Notes SC6 1.0.0 Compared to SC6 1-0-0_beta (beta version of the Scientific Use File released in August 2011) the data set of SC6 1-0-0 (main release) includes major improvements. Most important changes affect the following: 1. Extended coding and generation of further variables Occupational coding as well as coding of courses has been extended. Contents of further education courses have been coded according to the 'Kompetenzkatalog' of the Federal Employment Agency. There is an additional variable for the new official classification of occupations 2010 (Klassifikation der Berufe 2010). 2. Enhanced usability by a new set of generated files - File 'Education'. Provides target's transitions in CASMIN and ISCED-97 coded longitudinally. This allows an easy identification of the target's highest educational level at any point in time. - File 'Basics'. Simplifies the panel structure of data by providing recent and basic information (such as gender, age at interview, highest educational level, etc.) in a cross-sectional data format. The file will be prospectively updated for upcoming panel waves. - File 'FurtherEducation'. The file integrates data on all courses from spCourses and spFurtherEdu1 as well as vocational courses and trainings from spVocTrain into one consolidated format. 3. Enhanced methods data Methods data in File 'Methods' were significantly enhanced by further variables, for example, about the sampling process, the interview, or the interviewer. 4. Fine-grained regional data added A new file 'RegioInfas' with comprehensive and fine-grained regional data is provided (via on-site access). The file has been prepared on the basis of a database provided by infas geodaten. 5. Enhanced and bilingual metadata Data sets are released with labels for variables and values in German as well as in English. Additionally, the NEPS Data Center provides for Stata users a new command 'infoquery [varlist]' that displays item information (such as question texts) for variables in a convenient way within the Stata console. 6. More intuitive naming conventions Naming conventions for edition variables as well as derived variables haven been slightly adjusted in order to be more intuitive. 7. Optimization of wave integration The integration of Wave 1 (2007/2008 ALWA forerunner study) and Wave 2 (NEPS main study 2009/20109) has been optimized. For instance, harmonization of panel variables as well as harmonization of panel extended spell data have been substantively improved. 8. Comprehensive corrections of data errors and additional data cleaning 9. Enhanced documentation There are several enhancements in the data manual and more practical examples are included. Additional and extended documentation on data anonymization, regional data, as well as file merging is provided. 10. A new repository for Stata commands related to NEPS data For Stata users an ADO-repository has been created providing helpful commands for working with the data. You will find a detailed introduction in the data manual. Please note that the beta data set (SC6 1-0-0_beta), which had been released for testing, is now obsolete. Thus, it will no longer be available. We would like to thank numerous researchers who participated in the beta phase. Their feedback has contributed to a significant improvement of the Scientific Use File for the main release. Please continue to report any feedback to: userservice.neps@uni-bamberg.de
