New Scientific Use File of Starting Cohort 1 (Newborns) released

2/28/2020

New data for the NEPS Starting Cohort 1 are now available in version 7.0.0 for scientific use.

The current Scientific Use File (doi:10.5157/NEPS:SC1:7.0.0) contains new information from the seventh wave of the NEPS newborns’ starting cohort. The survey was conducted between April and September 2018 as personal interview (CAPI + PAPI parents' questionnaire) with the legal guardians of the target children, during which three tablet-based competence tests (TBT) were administered with the children. The measurements concerned the domains "basic cognitive skills" (DGCF, non-verbal), "phonological working memory" (range of numbers) and "mathematical competence" (elementary and primary level). For panel participants who could not be reached in the CAPI field, the possibility of telephone interviews (CATI) was subsequently set up. In addition, questionnaires (PAPI) were passed on via the parents to the facility directors and group leaders at the day-care centres of the target children. The corresponding Field Report on the website in the section “Documentation“ provides detailed information on the realization of this wave. There you will also find the Release Notes with explanations on the current data edition as well as the Data Manual as an introduction to the research data of the newborns’ cohort and numerous other materials.
